I'm definitely no expert in the areas of oil however I do believe that if the majority of people participated in this idea it would take a major chunk out of our current oil problem. The idea is this, when you get an oil change in your vehicle; choose synthetic oil and not regular fossil oil. As far as I understand, synthetic oil does not contain any fossil oil and is completely man made, so correct me if I am wrong. The past three vehicles I have owned, I used synthetic in them and the vehicle starts easier and seems to run smoother. Now I know the synthetic costs more, almost 3 times as much, however it also lasts longer. Synthetic, on average, will last anywhere from 8 to 15 thousand miles. I usually change my oil every 10k miles and I use Valvoline synthetic. When I get an oil change I always ask if I needed it and they always tell me you could have gone an extra couple thousand miles.

   Buy yourself a Honda Civic Hybrid. If you do as much driving as I do it will definitely pay for itself. I recently purchased one and traded in my Toyota Camry V6. I get 51 MPG in the Civic and can go roughly 600 miles if I run it bone dry. Another neat feature is that the oil has a monitor on it so it knows when the viscosity is low. It also has a tire pressure monitor so you always have the right amount of air in your tires.
